iOS 10.0.3 Jailbreak

Now that Apple has released iOS 10.0.3 to the public, attention has turned, once again, to the jailbreak situation. We are still waiting for news from Taig and Pangu on their progress with a jailbreak for iOS 10 and now that iOS 10.0.3 download [ext link] is here, that is most likely going to be the target of the next jailbreak utility. As of now though, the latest jailbreak utility is PPHelper, aimed at the 64-bit devices on iOS 9.2 through to iOS 9.3.3.

Although we don’t know when the iOS 10.0.3 jailbreak [ext link] will be released, we do know that there have been vulnerabilities in the new generation of firmware. Luca Todesco produced proof that iOS 10 could be jailbroken when he uploaded a video of an iPad running Cydia and he followed that up with a photo of an iPhone 7 running Cydia iOS 10.0.2 [ext link]. However, the chances are, those vulnerabilities have now been patched with subsequent updates and were most likely not usable across the whole range of devices that a jailbreak has to cover these days.

Earlier this year, we heard rumors of a new security system in iOS 10 called Rootless. The idea behind it was to stop access to certain files and parts of the iOS system, regardless of whether a user had administrative access or not and it was designed to stop jailbreaking in its tracks. Clearly that hasn’t worked out, as Todesco proved but it may well be working to slow things down. In the act few years, we have been treated to jailbreaks within a few weeks of a major firmware release but that doesn’t look likely to happen this time around.

There could be any number of reasons for that; Rootless may be playing its part here or it could be that Taig and Pangu are waiting for the Cupertino company to slow down on their updates before they release a public jailbreak. We know that iOS 10.1 is in beta and we know that it contains major features for the camera system on the iPhone 7 Plus and that may mean a further delay in a jailbreak being released.

Right now, we are pinning our hopes on an iOS 10.0.3 jailbreak in the near future but can only advise you to hold on to your current jailbreak if you are still running it on your iPhone or iPad. For those that have updated, the waiting game goes on. For all the latest news and developments on the iOS 10.0.3 jailbreak, follow us on Facebook and Sign up to our free email newsletter.
